Photoshop and Illustrator Assignment - Product Design - May 2015

Brief

Students are required to fully design the logo and labelling of three common place products and to firstly present these as flat labels (Illustrator). Once the labels are complete they must be mapped and blended onto the actual 2D packaging and presented as a mock-up of how the labelling might actually look on the finished products.
  • All the graphics, the typography and the logo are to be done in ILLUSTRATOR.
  • You MUST design all your own vector artwork for this assignment.
  • Background images/textures/product shots and along with shading and blending and matching the label to the packaging should traditionally be done in Photoshop.
  • You must come up with a name, the logo and the overall branding for each product. Make sure you chose a suitable name that suits the brand, the product and the target market for the product.
Milk Carton Design

Brief

DESIGN THE BRANDING AND LABELLING FOR A CARTON OF MILK, JUICE or SMOOTHIE
  • You must design two panels for the carton, the front and also one side.
  • The front typically will contain the logo the name of the product and details of flavour, type, main marketing selling points.
  • Set the dimensions of the front panel to 70mm X 190mm and the side to 70mm X 160mm.
  • One or more bitmap images i.e. a photo of sliced fruit, background images, textures and traced/sketched character.
  • On the front of the carton you must include the name of the product (via its logo), the company who makes it, the net weight of the content in grams and ounces.
  • Suitable fonts, graphics and colour scheme to suit the product and its target audience.
  • The side panel of the box must be designed, type set and tabulated appropriately with all the nutritional facts and all ingredients of the product.
Beer Bottle Design

Brief

DESIGN THE BRANDING AND LABELLING FOR A Beer Bottle
  • You must design two panels for the branding for the beer can be any suitable name you choose. Include the front labelling only for the product (the main label and the label on the bottle neck. You must include the gradients and effects (i.e water drops) that you normally see on beer branding.
Honey Jar Design

Brief

DESIGN THE BRANDING AND LABELLING FOR Jam, Marmalade, Honey – Any Three products that comes in a glass Jar
  • If you choose to design labelling for the glass jars products then you will need to create three labels that are similar look /style i.e they come from the same company/branding.

Illustrator Assignment - Magazine Cover - March 2015

Magazine Cover

Brief

Design a vector only cover for the next issue of ‘Computer Arts’ Magazine using Adobe Illustrator
  • You must submit a completed cover design that is created entirely in illustrator. All imagery, characters, backgrounds, patterns, typography, the logo and any other elements in the design must all be done in solely in ILLUSTRATOR.
  • You MUST design all your own vector artwork for this assignment.
  • No bitmap images or photos may be used in the stamps they must be entirely drawn up as vector artwork.
  • Computer Arts Magazine Dimensions: 220mm x 270mm with a 5mm bleed.
  • 8. All elements of your cover should be aligned, and vector drawing should be of high quality. This must be a professional looking magazine cover that you would expect to see on the shelves in news agents.
  • A Computer ARTS logo - You must COMPLETELY REDESIGN a Computer ARTS logo in Illustrator
  • You must include an issue number for the magazine, the date of issue and a barcode.
  • You must typeset headings for three feature articles, on the cover. You may use the computer arts website to source ideas on articles to feature for the cover.
  • A suitable background, visual elements, colour and fonts should all work together to put across the theme of your cover design.

Photoshop Assignment - Movie Poster- December 2014

Movie Poster

Brief

Re-designing a movie poster entirely in Photoshop.
  • You must use some of the new techniques you are learning in Photoshop this year when designing your Movie Poster. i.e. Layer Styles, Colour Adjustments, Filters, Grids, Content Aware, Masking and Blending layers, Layer Masks , Selecting via Channels, ‘Blend If’ techniques and ‘Vanishing Point’, Displacement Maps.
  • Research images/fonts/promotional material on the web relevant to that movie. You may also take photographs or use digital stock photography if necessary for your idea.
  • You must typeset the title of the movie, a suitable slogan, the actors, the directors, producers, and a release date and ALL general information for the movie that you see on all movie posters.
  • Set the dimension of the Poster to A2 in Photoshop. Set the resolution of your file to 150 dpi. Save your file as a PSD.

Book Cover

Brief

You have been asked to submit a proposal for the Front Cover and Logo of a new magazine that is soon to be launched.
Connect It
Technology / Gadget Magazine for Computer/ Phone/ts/Cameras etc.
  • The cover is to be design for A4 (210mm x 297mm) with an additional 3mm bleed allocated in Illustrator.
  • You are required to design a new logo for your magazine of choice in Illustrator.
  • Other Items: You must include the issue number of the magazine, the cost and a bar code.
  • Text: You must include text (typeset and positioned accordingly) for the heading of one main feature article and three other sub articles relevant to the magazine
  • Image Selecting and Editing: All photo image editing must be done in Photoshop. The brief is quite specific in that the look and feel of the magazine must be contemporary and fresh.

Photoshop Assignment - Book Cover - March 2014

Brief

You are required to design a book cover entirely in Photoshop for one of the following titles.
‘Let the Great World Spin’ by Colum McCann
A dazzlingly rich vision of the pain, loveliness, mystery, and promise of New York City in the 1970s.
  • Set the dimension of the file to landscape : 285mm x 200mm (including a 25mm spine)
  • Set the resolution of your file to 200 dpi
  • The front cover of the book – images, title, author.
  • The spine of the book – title, author, small image (optional), and publisher’s Logo.
  • Back of the book – review text, image/s, Publisher ‘s Logo (can be any) and any Bar Code.

Illustrator Assignment - Stamps - December 2013

Brief

Design a series of three stamps that represents any aspect of multiculturalism.
  • Design your stamps based on one country or you might decide to design the three stamps based on three separate countries or cultures.
  • You do not necessarily need to bring Ireland into the design as the idea is to have the stamps represent and celebrate other countries.
  • Work entirely using vectors (primarily the pen tool) in Illustrator.
  • No bitmap images or photos may be used in the stamps they must be entirely drawn up as vector artwork.
  • The target audience for this campaign is the general public.
  • Set each stamp size is 2.5cm x 3cm (Portrait or Landscape)
